CHI E’ NESPOLI

NEGRAR (VR): Lorenzo Nespoli regala la seconda vittoria stagionale al team MBH Bank Ballan CSB Colpack, trionfando in solitaria al prestigioso Palio del Recioto gara internazionale che si tiene in Valpolicella. Il corridore di Giussano ha attaccato con decisione a 40 chilometri dal traguardo e ha resistito fino alla fine, venendo travolto dall’abbraccio commosso di tutto lo staff all’arrivo.

Nespoli ha preceduto il promettente Lorenzo Mark Finn (Red Bull – Bora Hansgrohe), vincitore ieri del Giro del Belvedere e quinto alla Liegi U23, rendendo ancora più prestigiosa la sua impresa. Il risultato esalta il lavoro del team guidato da Antonio Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak e dalle famiglie Ballan, D’Aprile e Colleoni, che attendevano da tempo un successo così importante. Da segnalare anche l’ottavo posto di Lorenzo Masciarelli e il decimo di Pavel Novak, a completare un’ottima giornata per la squadra. A completare il podio anche l’austriaco Marco Schrettl (Tirol KTM).

Il bilancio stagionale del team ora conta due successi (Ambrosini a San Geo e Nespoli), due secondi posti e un terzo posto. La corsa si è svolta su 146 km, percorsi in 3h 46’41” a una media di 38,882 km/h.

Dichiarazioni

“Avevo dentro tanta rabbia” – racconta lo scalatore alto 1,85 Nespoli – “perché ieri le cose non erano andate come volevo e avevo grande voglia di riscatto. A 40 km dall’arrivo sono partito con convinzione in salita, poi ho spinto forte in discesa e ho accumulato subito un buon margine, che ha toccato i 2 minuti. Ho tenuto duro: sulle salite lunghe mi sentivo il più forte, e questo mi ha dato ancora più forza in una gara segnata dal primo caldo della stagione, in cui l’idratazione è stata fondamentale.”

Il finale è stato al cardiopalma, con il gruppo degli inseguitori che sembrava potesse riprenderlo.

“A 2 km dall’arrivo mi sono voltato: avevo ancora 300 metri di vantaggio. Mi sono detto che non mi avrebbero più ripreso. Ho messo l’11, il rapporto più duro. Personalmente non ho mai avuto paura, anche se capisco che per gli altri sia stata una sofferenza… alla fine avevo solo 10 secondi di margine.”

Il lombardo, al terzo anno nella categoria U23, spiega l’origine della sua motivazione:

“Ieri stavo bene, ma ero molto marcato. Questo mi ha innervosito e ho sprecato un’occasione.”

Il significato della vittoria

“Tutta la fatica fatta fin qui è stata ripagata. Alla Settimana Coppi e Bartali sentivo già buone sensazioni, quindi la vittoria doveva arrivare.”

Obiettivi di stagione?

“Sicuramente il Giro Next Gen, dove l’anno scorso ho vinto la maglia blu di miglior scalatore. Poi spero di essere costante, visto che nel 2024 ho vissuto una stagione a corrente alternata per via degli infortuni. Quest’anno, per ora, è filato tutto liscio.”

Dedica?

“Alla famiglia Valoti: pochi giorni fa il nostro DS Gianluca ha perso il papà Pietro. E ovviamente alla mia famiglia e a tutte le persone che ci supportano nel lavoro quotidiano: preparatori, staff, tutti.”

Prossimi impegni?

“Il GP della Liberazione a Roma e poi Biella.”

“Un successo che ci voleva per il lavoro svolto. Premia il gruppo e gli sponsor. Avevamo più frecce al nostro arco, ma Nespoli è stato bravo ad anticipare tutti. Bene anche Masciarelli e Novak, sempre presenti, come Bracalente e Chesini in copertura.”

NEGRAR (VR): Lorenzo Nespoli delivered the second victory of the season for the MBH Bank Ballan CSB Colpack team, triumphing solo at the prestigious Palio del Recioto, an international race held in Valpolicella. The rider from Giussano launched a decisive attack with 40 kilometers to go and held on until the finish, where he was overwhelmed by the emotional embrace of the entire staff.

Nespoli crossed the line ahead of promising rider Lorenzo Mark Finn (Red Bull – Bora Hansgrohe), winner of yesterday’s Giro del Belvedere and fifth at Liège U23, making the win even more prestigious. This result highlights the work of the team led by Antonio Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak, and the Ballan, D’Aprile, and Colleoni families, who had long awaited such an important victory. Also noteworthy were the 8th place of Lorenzo Masciarelli and 10th of Pavel Novak, rounding out an excellent day for the team. Rounding out the podium was Austria’s Marco Schrettl (Tirol KTM).

The team’s seasonal record now includes two victories (Ambrosini at San Geo and Nespoli), two second places, and one third place. The race covered 146 km in 3h 46’41”, at an average speed of 38.882 km/h.

Statements

“I had a lot of anger inside,” said the 1.85 m climber Nespoli. “Yesterday didn’t go the way I wanted, and I was determined to bounce back. With 40 km to go, I attacked decisively on the climb, then pushed hard on the descent and quickly built a good lead, which reached up to two minutes. I held on: on the long climbs I felt the strongest, and that gave me even more strength, especially in this race marked by the first heat of the season, where hydration was key.”

The finale was heart-stopping, with the chasing group looking like they might catch him.

“With 2 km to go, I looked back and still had a 300-meter gap. I told myself they wouldn’t catch me. I dropped into the 11, the hardest gear. Personally, I was never afraid, though I understand it must have been nerve-wracking for everyone else… In the end, I only had a 10-second margin.”

Now in his third year in the U23 category, the Lombard rider explained the origin of his motivation:

“I was feeling good yesterday, but I was heavily marked. That frustrated me, and I missed an opportunity.”

The meaning of the win

“All the hard work so far has paid off. At the Settimana Coppi e Bartali, I already felt good, so I knew a win was coming.”

Goals for the season?

“Definitely the Giro Next Gen, where I won the blue jersey as best climber last year. Then I hope to be consistent, since 2024 was a stop-start season for me due to injuries. This year, so far, everything’s been smooth.”

Dedication?

“To the Valoti family: a few days ago, our DS Gianluca lost his father Pietro. And of course, to my own family and everyone who supports us in our daily work—coaches, staff, everyone.”

“The GP della Liberazione in Rome and then Biella.”
