ALMÈ (BG): Everything is ready for the Giro Next Gen, the big June event that brings together the best of the international U23 cycling scene. The race takes place from June 15 to 22, starting in Rho and finishing in Pinerolo, covering 1,029 kilometers over 8 stages.

June isn’t just about the Giro Next Gen: there are also other races, specifically the Trofeo Città di Empoli on June 15 and the Montalbano race on June 16.

But let’s start with the “pink race,” organized for the second consecutive year by RCS Sport.

The first words come from Team Manager Antonio Bevilacqua, who recently announced that the team will move up to the Professional category in 2026:

“We’re getting ready for one of the most important moments of our season. In recent years we’ve performed well with stage wins and jerseys. In 2021, we won the race with Juan Ayuso. But those are memories — in keeping with our DNA, we’re looking ahead, aiming for new success. We’ve worked hard, invested in altitude training camps, and provided the best possible support for our riders. We’re confident and ready for the challenge.”

The technical side is explained by Sports Directors Gianluca Valoti and Davide Martinelli:

“We had to make some tough decisions for our selection, leaving Manuel Oioli out, even though he’s a strong rider. We’re really sorry — he gave his all during the pre-Giro training. This year the teams are limited to five riders, and our technical decision ended up penalizing him.”

RIDERS SELECTED FOR THE GIRO NEXT GEN:
Lorenzo Masciarelli, Lorenzo Nespoli, Pavel Novak, Cesare Chesini, Zsombor Tamás Takács

Here are their statements, between expectations and excitement:

Masciarelli:
“The first part of the season went well, and the win at the GP della Liberazione gave me more confidence. This is my first Giro, and I want to discover my limits.”

The most emotional of all is Hungarian rider Zsombor Takács:
“Being selected was unexpected. I’m so happy to be at the Giro. It will be a great experience for all of us. I want to help the team during the flat stages. I think things have gone really well so far, and I didn’t expect 2025 to be this good. I hoped to improve, but not this much. I’ve reached a good level and recover quickly from effort.”

Pavel Novak:
“For me, this Giro will be a journey of discovery. I’m dealing with some allergies and I hope they won’t affect me. I’ve trained well and the season has been good so far. To prepare as best I could, I even had nasal surgery over the winter to improve my breathing. Last year’s 5th place overall is a big motivation, but every season is different, so I’m starting from scratch with new goals.”

Nespoli:
“My role in the team will become clearer after stage 3. If I’m with the front group, I’ll go for GC, otherwise we’ll adapt. 2025 started well for me in terms of health. I know — in 2024 I was the best climber, which gave me a lot of confidence. Being selected again in 2025 wasn’t guaranteed, because we have a very strong team. Just making the squad is a great result. I’ve studied the stages, but I’m not sure yet which one to target. The one near my home in Cantù doesn’t suit my characteristics — too bad.”

Chesini:
“This is my second Giro. In 2024, I finished 17th overall and 4th among Italians. It was a great experience. This year, I haven’t yet shown my full potential. I trained well in April, but then had some bad luck and illness. I’m arriving at the start after three weeks at altitude. I focused on long climbs, and I hope to perform well.”

The team will also be racing in Empoli, led by Flavio Miozzo. Riders: Ambrosini, Bagatin, Balogh, Makray, Oioli, Vesco — racing on June 14.
On June 15, they’ll race in Montalbano, again with Miozzo in the team car: Ambrosini, Bagatin, Makray, Oioli, Vas, Vesco.

GIRO NEXT GEN 2025

In the coming days, the names of the selected riders for the Giro Next Gen will be announced. The team is currently at a training camp in Sestriere, preparing at altitude. The team directors, in collaboration with the performance staff, have nearly finalized the roster for the RCS-organized race. More details will be released shortly.
