PADENGHE SUL GARDA (BS): Parte con il botto la stagione 2025 del Team MBH Bank Ballan CSB Colpack.Matteo Ambrosini vince in provincia di Brescia, alla Coppa San Geo, mentre Cesare Chesini è 2° alla Firenze-Empoli. Il successo di squadra è arricchito dalle buone prestazioni del collettivo, con il piazzamento di Christian Bagatin, che si classifica 9°.

Un inizio di stagione esplosivo che consente ora ai ragazzi del team di Antonio Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak e delle famiglie Ballan, D’Aprile e Colleoni di affrontare con entusiasmo le prossime gare.

Partiamo subito dal successo di Ambrosini, che torna a vincere dopo il GP Capodarco 2023. Sul traguardo, il veneto si presenta in perfetta solitudine, con 7” di margine su Christian Remelli (General Store), sotto gli occhi entusiasti di Renato D’Aprile (CSB) e Alessandro Ballan (Ballan SPA).

DICHIARAZIONI: “Sono molto felice. Un pensiero lo avevo fatto alla San Geo, anche se non ero sicuro di poter vincere. I miei obiettivi sono più spostati verso aprile, ma qui avevo la testa libera. In Spagna, nel training camp, sentivo di andare forte, ma non pensavo di avere gambe da vincitore. Al via ero abbastanza sereno e poi era la prima gara, quindi non avvertivo pressioni. In corsa, però, mi sentivo bene ed ho fatto qualche tentativo di allungo nel finale, giocando al meglio le mie opportunità. Era da Capodarco 2023 che non riuscivo a vincere. Nel 2024 ho disputato tante belle gare, ma è mancata la vittoria.”

Il ragazzo di Asiago aggiunge quanto sia importante la vittoria odierna: “Un successo che mi permette di iniziare bene il 2025. Allenarsi con il freddo è un grande sacrificio e andare in Spagna è stata una bella opportunità per cui ringrazio il team. La giornata di oggi ci regala morale. Ora mi sento più maturo in gara dal punto di vista tattico.”

Ambrosini, a metà novembre, è stato operato al naso e quindi la sua preparazione è iniziata solo a dicembre.

TECNICO: In ammiraglia, Gianluca Valoti ha diretto il team e spiega la condotta di gara: “Avevamo un team competitivo e con diverse opzioni tattiche. In caso di arrivo allo sprint c’era Samuel Quaranta, altrimenti tutti gli altri potevano avere una chance. Inizialmente c’era una fuga, che abbiamo gestito con altri team. Ai meno 30 km, Ambrosini è andato all’attacco in un gruppo di 10 corridori, che poi si è spezzato sulla salita del castello, con Ambro che ha giocato d’anticipo almeno 15”.”

FIRENZE-EMPOLI: Il successo è solo sfiorato in Toscana, alla Firenze-Empoli, dove Cesare Chesini perde di un soffio lo sprint vinto dal britannico Ben Granger. Sul traguardo arrivano in quattro. La gara era per Elite e Under 23.

“Secondo non è mai un bel piazzamento – racconta Chesini – Ci siamo trovati in due dopo l’ultima curva. A metà rettilineo finale mi sono accorto che stava rientrando da dietro e sono partito lungo. Accetto il risultato, che è utile al morale.”

Il veneto, al primo anno nel team MBH Bank Ballan CSB Colpack, aggiunge: “Ero consapevole di stare bene, ma non mi aspettavo questa brillantezza. Certo che quando ti trovi davanti giochi per vincere, vorresti fare il colpaccio. Avevo notato che in salita si faticava a fare la differenza e quindi le mie possibilità di vittoria si assottigliavano.”

IL TEAM MANAGER: In ammiraglia, in Toscana, Antonio Bevilacqua: “Una bellissima partenza. Lo scorso anno abbiamo faticato ad ingranare, mentre ora siamo partiti subito bene. Ero convinto che avremmo fatto bene in entrambe le corse e così è stato. Andiamo avanti con un morale molto alto.”

PADENGHE SUL GARDA (BS): THE 2025 SEASON STARTS WITH A BANG FOR TEAM MBH BANK BALLAN CSB COLPACK

Matteo Ambrosini wins in the province of Brescia at the San Geo, while Cesare Chesini takes 2nd place at the Firenze-Empoli. The team’s success is further enriched by strong collective performances, including Christian Bagatin’s 9th-place finish.

An explosive start to the season allows the riders of Antonio Bevilacqua, Gabor Deak, and the Ballan, D’Aprile, and Colleoni families to tackle the upcoming races with enthusiasm.

Let’s start with Ambrosini’s victory, his first since Capodarco 2023. He crossed the finish line solo, with a 7-second gapover Christian Remelli (General Store), under the enthusiastic eyes of Renato D’Aprile (CSB) and Alessandro Ballan (Ballan SPA).

“I’m very happy. I had thought about San Geo, but I wasn’t sure I could win. My main goals are later in April, but here I felt mentally free. During the training camp in Spain, I felt strong, but I didn’t think I had winning legs yet. I was calm at the start, as it was the first race, so there was no pressure. During the race, I felt good and tried a few attacks in the final, playing my cards right. I hadn’t won since Capodarco 2023. I had many strong performances in 2024, but the victory was missing.”

The Asiago-born rider also emphasized the importance of today’s win:

“Starting 2025 with a victory is huge for me. Training in the cold is a big sacrifice, and going to Spain was a great opportunity, so I want to thank the team. Today’s result boosts morale, and I feel more tactically mature in races.”

Ambrosini underwent nasal surgery in mid-November, meaning his preparation only started in December.

From the team car, Gianluca Valoti led the squad and explained the race tactics:

“We had a strong team with different tactical options. If it came down to a sprint, we had Samuel Quaranta, but otherwise, everyone else had a chance. An early break formed, which we controlled together with other teams. With 30 km to go, Ambrosini attacked in a group of 10 riders, which then split on the Castello climb. At that point, ‘Ambro’ launched his winning move with at least a 15-second gap.”

FIRENZE-EMPOLI: VICTORY JUST OUT OF REACH IN TUSCANY

The Firenze-Empoli race saw Cesare Chesini come heartbreakingly close to victory, finishing second in the sprint won by Britain’s Ben Granger. The race concluded with a four-man sprint, and it was open to both Elite and Under-23 riders.

“Finishing second is never a great result,” said Chesini. “After the final turn, we were just two riders out in front. Midway down the finishing straight, I realized he was coming back from behind, so I launched a long sprint. I accept the result—it still helps boost morale.”

The Veneto rider, in his first year with MBH Bank Ballan CSB Colpack, added:

“I knew I was in good shape, but I didn’t expect to feel this strong. Of course, when you find yourself in a winning position, you go all in. I noticed that the climbs weren’t making much of a difference, which meant my chances of victory were getting slimmer.”

From the team car in Tuscany, Antonio Bevilacqua commented:

“A fantastic start. Last year, we struggled to find momentum, but this time, we hit the ground running. I was confident we would perform well in both races, and that’s exactly what happened. We move forward with very high morale.”

Tomorrow, the team will race in Misano Adriatico, with Beppe Dileo leading from the team car.
